In a month full of high-profile twang, Americana, country and alt-country, you can also look forward to a farewell concert by the Dead & Company; the return of country pop queen Shania Twain; another round of cool vibes from neo-soul goddess Erykah Badu; and some guaranteed intense screams at Louis Tomlinson’s show.
Here are June’s must-see shows in St. Louis.
Steve Martin and Martin Short

The Fox Theatre is pretty quiet in the summer months, but one can’t-miss event at the venue is a long-sold-out show by Steve Martin and Martin Short. The comedy legends’ “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today” tour features Jeff Babko and the Steep Canyon Rangers. Martin and Short star in “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu.

Shania Twain

Country pop superstar Shania Twain is poised to be an early summer highlight with her new “Queen of Me Tour,” featuring Breland. The tour is named for her first album since “Now” (2017) and features “Waking Up Dreaming” and “Giddy Up.” Twain recently released a deluxe version of the album, “The Royal Edition,” which includes a “Giddy Up” remix, an acoustic version of the title track and a version of “Inhale/Exhale Air” with added vocals from Breland.
Dead & Company

Dead & Company is coming to the end of the road, wrapping up (presumably) this partial iteration of the Grateful Dead that began in 2015. The band’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, John Mayer and Bob Weir, with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti, will perform two sets.

Twangfest, St. Louis’ longest-running homegrown music festival, celebrates its 25th year of Americana and alt-country with acts such as Black Joe Lewis, James McMurtry, Robbie Fulks, Waco Brothers and several others.
Billy Strings

Bluegrass artist Billy Strings made a big splash when he headlined last year at St. Louis Music Park, and he’s returning, this time to Chaifetz Arena. His latest album is “Me/And/Dad,” recorded with his father, Terry Barber. On the album, the pair perform songs they played together in Strings’ youth.
Louis Tomlinson

Former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson returns to the St. Louis area with his “Faith in the Future World Tour.” His fans’ screams are guaranteed to be deafening. The tour also features the Academic and Snarls.
Open Highway Music Festival

The Open Highway Music Festival is back at Chesterfield Amphitheatre. The Americana and rock ’n’ roll festival’s 12th year is poised to be its biggest yet. Headliners are Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and Blackberry Smoke. Other acts include S.G. Goodman, the Heavy Heavy, Beth Bombara, Matti Schell, the Sleepy Rubies, Funky Butt Brass Band and the Burney Sisters.
Luke Combs

Luke Combs, a Country Music Association entertainer of the year, makes his biggest appearance yet in St. Louis with his “World Tour,” coming to Busch Stadium with Riley Green, Lainey Wilson, Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb. It’s the first concert at Busch this year. Combs’ rise has been a rapid one since his 2017 album, “This One’s for You.” His newest, “Gettin’ Old,” features “Love You Anyway” and “Fast Car.”
Natalie Merchant, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra

We can’t even remember the last time we caught a concert by 10,000 Maniacs singer Natalie Merchant in St. Louis. She’s on her way here to perform with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, which is something to look forward to. Her latest album, “Keep Your Courage,” is her first in nearly a decade.
Charlie Puth

After releasing his third album, “Charlie,” in 2022, singer-songwriter Charlie Puth is on the road delivering “The ‘Charlie’ Live Experience,” featuring Alexander Stewart. The pop album includes singles “That’s Hilarious,” “Light Switch,” “Left and Right” featuring Jung Kook of BTS, and “I Don’t Think That I Like Her,” with drums by Travis Barker. The album is produced by Puth and follows his earlier effort “Voicenotes” (2018).
Marlon Wayans

Much funnier than Chris Rock’s most recent Netflix special, “Selective Outrage,” in which Rock addresses the infamous 2022 Oscars slap, is another comedian’s twist on the event. On “God Loves Me,” Marlon Wayans spends an hour giving his own perspective on what went down that night. It’s available on HBO Max.

Fans of Fall Out Boy in St. Louis were disappointed when the “Hella Mega” tour didn’t make it here a couple of years ago. But fans of the rock band are in luck with the new “So Much (for) Tour Dust.” Fall Out Boy’s latest album, “So Much (for) Stardust,” includes “Love From the Other Side,” “Heartbreak Feels So Good” and “Hold Me Like a Grudge.” Opening acts on tour are Alkaline Trio, Royal & the Serpent and Daisy Grenade.

The celebration of the life and legacy of music icon Willie Nelson continues for his 90th birthday, and the road warrior is refusing to slow down. The Outlaw Music Festival lineup features his friends and family: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Trampled By Turtles, Molly Tuttle and Particle Kid.
Erykah Badu

Earthy soul singer Erykah Badu’s headlining show was a highlight at Music at the Intersection last year. She returns to St. Louis sooner than expected with her “Unfollow Me Tour.” She will bring along Yasiin Bey (formely Mos Def) for the cool summer ride.
